Bagpiping

As is probably evident from the pictures and artwork, one of my passions is bagpiping. I have been playing the bagpipes since 1996. Throughout the years, bagpiping has taken me to Oregon, Washington, California, British Columbia, Alaska, New York, and Scotland for competitions and performances.

When looking back, two highlights come to mind: the 2003 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland and the Tartan Day Parade 2002 in New York City.

In 2003, the Sir James McDonald Pipe Band had the opportunity to travel to Scotland to compete at the World Championships. We were very successful, capturing a 4th place finish at the North Berwick Highland Games in the Grade III category and a 3rd place finish at the World Pipe Band Championships in the Juvenile category - the highest placing ever for a pipe band from Oregon!

As head of the Sir James McDonald Pipe Band, I was able to represent my band on Good Morning America, the Saturday Early Show on CBS, and be part of a world record attempt for the largest mass band of pipers and drummers assembled. Unfortunately, we fell a short of a world record but nearly 5,000 pipers and drummers from all over the world showed up.

Outdoors

Like most Oregonians, I love the outdoors. There are many beautiful trails to hike and stunning sites to be seen. From coastal walks to weekend hikes, I love them all.
